Job Description

This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of insurance innovation. As a Software Engineer, you’ll leverage your expertise in MS SQL Server and Python to support the actuarial department of a global insurance firm. Your role will involve managing the SQL server database and contributing to the enhancement and development of new reserving transformation projects and solutions.

Responsibilities: 
  • Provide Python and SQL Server infrastructure support to the reserving team during intra- quarter periods, as well as peak reserving cycles
  • Manage the day-to-day SQL Server database administration tasks 
  • Investigate possibilities for migration from local server toward cloud-based Azure
  • Develop a working knowledge of key Actuarial principles, with an ongoing commitment to developing reserving-specific domain
     knowledge in order to assist with strategic process planning as new reserving transformation projects commence
  • Introduce effective environmental controls within the team, so that a clear separation of concerns exists between DEV / PROD servers and 
    introduce appropriate version control within the team scripts using Azure Devops / Github
  • Develop and enhance the existing DEV server by redesign using modern database design principles
  • Extend the existing codebase via the automation of routine actuarial calculations within python and /or SQL Server

Desired Skills & Experience Profile: 
  • Advanced skills in Python within the context of data science and MS SQL 
  • Strong knowledge of database design principles, indexing and other performance-related subject domain knowledge including reading execution plans.
  • The ability to demonstrate the use of Python in the context of SQL Server, including pyodbc / sqlalchemy as well as use cases involving MS Excel
  • Advanced TSQL querying knowledge is required, as is a strong knowledge of database design principles, indexing and other performance-related subject domain knowledge including reading execution plans
  • Actuarial business knowledge is desirable
