Job Description

A fantastic opportunity in digital transformation for a global financial services major, the Head of DevOps will take a key role in a new leadership team focused on transforming the way commercially critical digital platforms are delivered and extended.  This is a role for a proven change agent, who can lead an organisation to embrace new delivery methods.  We are looking for an experienced and hands on DevOps professional who will lead from the front to instil DevOps culture and working practices.  The successful individual will benefit from joining a greenfield transformational change programme at its inception.
  • Establish the DevOps practice: define and implement the practice operating framework, define methods, select tools, and recruit and develop DevOps engineering talent
  • Establishment of a talented, modern DevOps team working on the latest technologies and platforms: AWS, Terraform, GitLab, Kubernetes and constantly exploring more
  • Establish and manage team of DevOps Engineers who will focus on build, integration and deployment tools and processes
  • Hands-on software development in addition to directing the development and operation of Build, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
  • Work closely with other Product, Engineering, QA, Platform and Support managers to in developing efficient and effective CI/CD tools and processes
  • Create and maintain fully automated CI build processes for multiple environments (e.g. .NET, Pega, Arcus, Sitecore)
  • Develop policies, standards, guidelines, governance and related guidance for both CI/CD operations and for Software Engineers
  • Support CI/CD tools integration with other processes and tools
  • Enable and support full automation of CI/Testing
  • On-board, train and support software engineers from source control, through build automation, merge resolution, CI, test automation, and deployment through tools usage, policies and standards
  • Enable DevOps by moving code from Dev/Test to Staging and Production; troubleshoot issues along the CI/CD pipeline
  • Write build and deployment scripts
  • With architecture support, define the relevant DevOps technology strategies and roadmaps, and ensure that relevant architecture artefacts are created, agreed and maintained
  • Provide updates on DevOps practice status and performance, and cascade relevant communications within the practice
  • Ensure that practice knowledge is curated into guides and knowledge repositories
  • Resolve issues and risks that may impact the performance of the DevOps Engineering practice, including those escalated from your engineering team
  • Work closely to support the Head of Procurement in vendor management and commercial matters
Skills / Experience Profile
  • Experience leading small team of experts – both permanent team members as well as working with industry experts and consultancies.
  • Experience of designing and delivering enterprise-wide DevOps solutions in a greenfield environment
  • Experience of developing innovative ideas and principles around agile IT delivery
  • Worked in a CI/CD driven organisation
  • Broad understanding of tools and technologies such as
    • Source control (TFS/Azure DevOps, Jira, Git)
    • Continuous Integration (like AWS (CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, and CodeCommit), Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
    • Infrastructure Automation (like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible)
    • Deployment Automation & Orchestration (like AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy)
    • Container Concepts (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Orchestration (Kubernetes)
    • Cloud (AWS, Azure)
    • Plus demonstrable ability to learn and implement new tools and technologies in a vast-paced technical landscape
  • Experience with build-time dependency management
  • Familiar with unit testing and code-coverage tools
  • Experience in Programming and scripting languages such as Python, Node.JS, Powershell, Go, Java, C# and Ruby
  • Good understanding of Quality Control and Test Automation in Agile-based Continuous Integration environments
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • DevOps certification such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
  • Experience in test automation tools such as Mabl, Selenium, Cucumber
